What is plex server?

Plex is a media server that can be used to organize personal media files such as movies, TV shows, music, and photos. Plex can be installed on a variety of devices including computers, NAS devices, and even some routers. Once Plex is installed, it can be used to stream media files to any device that has the Plex app installed.

What does a Plex server do?

The Plex Media Server organises and streams video, audio, and photos from a user’s collections and online services to the players. Official and unofficial third-party clients are available on mobile devices, smart TVs, streaming boxes, and web apps. Since April 28, 2022, the logo has been in use.

Can I use my PC as a Plex server?

Plex Media Server can run on Windows, Mac, or Linux computers—some people use their main computer, while others have a separate computer for this purpose. It can also be installed on a network-attached storage (NAS) device that is compatible. Plex generally works well on most modern computers.

In this article, we will go over how to reclaim a Plex Server that has been inadvertently lost, removed, or deleted:

1. Login to your server
2. Then execute the command below.

sudo su –

3. From here, you must terminate the Plex service. You can accomplish this by issuing the following command.

service plexmediaserver stop

4. Once the service has been terminated, execute the following commands.

cd “/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server” ; mv Preferences.xml Preferences.xml.orig

5. Now, execute the following command to start the Plex Service.

service plexmediaserver start

You can now reclaim your Plex Server. Please see this page for more information on claiming your Plex Server.

You should go over all of your other preferences to ensure that everything is as it should be. The majority is in the database, but some may have been in the original Preferences.xml file.

If you previously shared libraries, you will need to do so again.
